Dog owners look for more than keeping their dogs safe in a facility when looking for dog hotel solutions; they're looking for facilities that will keep their fur-babies active, engaged, and happy. The way to create this environment is to utilize structured activities. While open-play opportunities allow for freedom, structured play gives a pet

structure and routine, which in turn allows it to be less stressed, relax, and show its best behavior. Dog boarding facilities today have recognized the importance of providing pets with structure so that they can grow and develop the same way as they would at home.

Structured Activities Reduce Anxiety and Stress in Dogs

New surroundings can often be the greatest source of anxiety in dogs because they don't know what to expect, especially the first time they stay away from home and in a hotel-type facility. Structured activity provides furry companions with a level of stability by offering predictable routines. Dogs will understand what is happening during the day through planned fun and guided walks, as well as relaxing time. Because of this predictability, dogs are able to relax faster and have lower anxiety levels while away from home in a more stable environment. Many facilities also provide individualized routine services for the dog that is shy, senior, or high-energy, which allows for further comfort and support of each one.

Routine-Based Play Enhances Physical Health and Behavior

Physical exercise provides dogs with the mental stimulation they need to develop a balanced mind and body. When dogs engage in physical activities such as agility games, obstacle courses, and supervised group play, they also expend energy that may lead to anxious or restless behaviors when not properly channeled; this includes excessive barking or pacing. Dogs on structured exercise and activity routines tend to return home calmer and more fulfilled, and generally behave better than dogs who were not on a structured exercise routine. When activities such as interactive games or fetch are incorporated into boarding facilities, it creates a complete wellness program for the dog.

Interacting with other dogs who are equally matched helps to develop confidence and communication skills, as well as decreasing fear-based behaviors. Through interactions, dogs learn impulse control, patience, and cooperative play—skills that are valuable to both dogs and their pet parents when outside of the boarding facility. Ultimately, structured physical activities create a positive and enriching boarding experience for dogs and provide a healthier and happier pet, giving pet parents complete peace of mind.
